More than seven people have been confirmed dead in an accident along Ibadan-Lagos expressway



More than seven people have been confirmed dead and twelve injured after a ghastly accident which occurred at Alapako/Ogunmakin axis along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.

The sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission,FRSC, Ogun State, Clement Oladele, reported that 19 persons were travelling to Lagos from Ibadan in a Mazda commercial bus when it collide with a Ford Explorer jeep coming from the opposite direction.

According to eyewitnesses, the Ford explorer has number plate KJA 278 DS while the commercial bus bore GGE 873 XU, they also added that the accident occurred where there a road obtruction due to an ongoing construction work on the road.

According to the traffic report and eyewitnesses, among the dead persons were four males including a child, and three females; while eight males and four females were injured.

Mr. Oladele said that the accident was due to a burst tyre of the bus which was on a fast motion.

According to him, "Seven passengers died in the accident, twelve others where left injured.The accident occured due to tyre burst."

But in a contrary report, Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said 18 people died in the accident.

He said, "According to the report from our operatives who were on duty at the scene of the accident, 18 passengers inside the bus died on the spot. The driver of the commercial bus was trying to overtake another vehicle when the bus had a head- on collision with the Ford jeep approaching directly opposite the commercial bus.
The accident occurred at a section where there was a obstruction on the road due to the ongoing construction work been carried out on the road.

Mr.Oladele also added that the remains of the people who lost their lives due to the accident haad been deposited in a private mortuary in Isara-Remo, while the injured are still receiving treatment at Idera Hospital, Sagamu.
