My husband nearly killed me - Nollywood actress Chika Ike.

Nollywood actress, Chika Ike has shared with us the reasons she left her marriage.

Just last month, she announced that her divorce has been finalized.
Since she left her marriage, she's has been receiving series of backlash on social media concerning her divorce. Some people even went as far as accusing her of infidelity and that she was not loyal to her husband, and that she got married to get more money.

A single and happy Chika is definitely living the life to the fullest now.

She gave reasons on why she couldn't continue with the marriage, and that the main reason she left her husband was because he assaults her physically for years.

That her husband, Mr Eberibi domestically abused her several times which led to a miscarriage.

She shared her story:

For the past three months, I've been emotionally unstable, i try to focus my energy on work and to build back my self esteem.

It was almost impossible for me to share this story with you or to talk about this because sometimes, when i think about what happened in the past, its hard for me to believe that u was a victim of domestic violence. I've been through a lot in my life, i faced a lot of challenges and stuff like that but I've tried to avoid this one topic, I've tried so hard to avoid and I've been waiting for the right time but i concluded within myself that there's really no perfect time or I'll be waiting forever because every second that goes by, lives are being lost because of domestic violence.

In my marriage, i was a victim of domestic violence and that alone was the reason i filed for a divorce.

In my childhood days,while i was growing up, i was known as the sweetest kid on the block, before i got married, i have been through some relationships and no man ever laid his hands on me. The first time it happened in my marriage i was shocked because i didn't understand it, i am not the type of woman a man beats but i guess there are no specifications of types of women that men beats.

It just happens like that and no woman deserves been beaten up. Growing up as a young girl i thought it was love or his own way of expressing his emotions, after the physical combats, he pleads,beg and promise that it will never happen again, i gave in, thinking it was love,i made excuses for him and let it die down like it never happened.

Over the years it reoccurs, i started searching for other definitions for it. I realize i was loosing my self pride, self esteem, self worth and i can never forget how i lost my pregnancy because of it.

I almost died in the process then it was clear to me how serious and inhumane it was.

I've heard and read a lot of accusations from people who knew nothing about what i went through, that's why they're actually ignorant because they have no idea not an inkling of what happened. I was 20 years old when i got married. I heard some people say "i married for the money" which i find very funny. My husband was a corporate guy, who had about 9 to 5 jobs in a bank, lives in a rented 2 bedroom apartment at Egbe.

I married for love. I was traditionally wedded, i also did a court wedding and a white wedding. So that proved i really wanted to be married forever. Every single day, i prayed that things change for good, but i knew it was time to call it off during a heated argument he threw a glass jug to my face and i manage to dogged it as i watch it shattered on the wall.

Death was close by so i made a decision to save my life while i can, so i opted for a divorced.

I am not saying this because i want to be pitied, i believe we all are entitled to our opinions. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from falling in love, because love is a beautiful feeling that i still believe in.

I just want people to be enlighten with my experience and for people to know that domestic violence is real.
