Lassa fever strikes again, kills a pregnant woman in Cross River


Four suspected cases of Lassa Fever have been confirmed in cross river state, one of the patients who is pregnant was killed by the disease.

The pregnant woman died as a result of the virus at the university of calabar teaching hospital.

The name of the woman was withheld for security reasons but it has been confirmed that she came into calabar from Taraba State.

She was admitted at the Nigerian Navy Hospital along Moore Road Calabar, she was later transferred to the intensive Care Teaching Hospital.

Cross River State Commissioner for health, Inyang Asibong speaking with channels tv, confirmed that the woman had to be transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital because she was  critically infected before she finally passed on after efforts of the doctors.

She went on to say that, blood samples of the dead woman have been taken for proper diagnosis, stating that efforts will be made to curtail the virus.
