Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi State has been declared wanted by the police.
Senator Dino Melaye is currently on the black book of the Nigerian police as he has been declared wanted. The police on Wednesday declared the senator representing Kogi State wanted alongside Mohammed Audu, the son of the former governor of the state, Abubakar Audu. According to the Police, both Dino and Audu have been placed on interpol watch list for providing fake informations to the police in connection to an alleged attempt on senator Melaye's life last year. The police made the announcement public in a statement signed by the Kogi state police commisioner, Ali Janga, and distributed by the force headquarters on Wednesday afternoon. The senator had earlier contacted the Inspector General of police Ibrahim Idris stating his intention to be investigated by the police. But Mr Melaye intention to walk straight to the police for investigation isn't without onditions as the senator stated that the ase must be handled in Abuja and not in Lokoja or anywhere in Kogi State as prefered by the police. His reasons was because he believed that the current Governor of Kogi State, Governor Yahaya Bello has control of law enforcement agencies in Kogi State. The senator wasn't taking the issue lightly as he have involved the U.S on the insecurities he's been facing recently. Mr Melaye wrote to the U.S Embassy, the British High commission and other foreign missions alleging attempt by the police to hurt him. Before he was been declared wanted, Mr.Melaye spoke on the issue while he was on the floor of the senate during which complained about the conspiracy by the police to hurt him. The police declared him wanted as they found out that some suspect who allegedly indicted the senator last week absconded from their custody. The police said they escaped in the earlier hours of Wednesday and then declared them wanted while announcing pending investigation of all officer who were on duty at the time of the escape. Mr.Melaye insisted that the police are plotting a cover-up by either killing the suspects or masterminding their escape from prison. "I will sue the IGP for intimidating, abuse of power, harassement and mental assault if these two suspects are not produced dead or alive,"The senator said on the floor of the senate aording to a transcript of Wednesday's proceeding provided on the senate's Twitter handle.
